I have tried other products, even store brands of the Sarna. While the ingredient list appears to be the same, in use, the Sarna excels in itch stopping and shelf life after being opened. This may not be a good product for little ones as it does have a slight, slight, tingling sensation, but not objectionable in my opinion. It also cools almost immediately, similar to a weak Tiger Balm. It's fantastic on eczema etc, and might even be helpful for bug bites and poison ivy. It does NOT do a great job of moisturizing, though that is to be expected with menthol and camphor. Cool your skin with this and then put a coating of a thin lotion on top, e.g. lubriderm or aveeno. However, Sarna was at the top of her list. It's been a life saver with my mild psoriasis. For really penetrating itch or pain, you'll need something like Lidocaine 5%, but for general skin discomfort, the original scent Sarna is ideal. I wish Sarna would keep the ingredient list the same and remove the (strong) fragrance but this is as perfect a product as they come. |
